Overview
Indiana Wesleyan University was founded in 1920 and is a private, not-for-profit, educational institution that is located in Marion, Indiana. The school has over 15,000 students earning their online degrees. Eighty-percent of those students are enrolled in the University’s distance learning program called the College of Adult and Professional Studies. The university also has over 900 faculty and staff.
There are a total of 11 on-site campus locations that students can attend which are located in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Shelbyville, Kokomo an Columbus, Indiana, as well we Dayton Ohio, Cincinnati Cleveland, and Louisville and Lexington Kentucky.
Programs
Indiana Wesleyan University offers online degree programs through its College of Adult and Professional Studies. The various degree programs are concentrated in the following areas: business, computers, education, nursing, liberal arts, and more. The fields of study in these areas include marketing, accounting, business administration, information systems, management, addiction counseling, Christian ministries, education, registered nurse, Criminal Justice, a general study of liberal arts, communications, and more.
Accreditation
Indiana Wesleyan is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. In addition, other accrediting agencies include the State Department of Public Instruction in Indiana, the National Association of Schools of Music, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, Indiana Board of Nursing Registration, the Council on Social Work Education, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science, American Medical Association, and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. All of these accreditations allow the university to have degree programs online.
Mission
The University’s mission is focused upon providing the educational opportunities to individuals that are looking for a liberal arts background, provide students with the necessary framework to develop their leadership abilities, create an environment that challenges a student’s character, and provide the forum for students to understand how important Christian principles are in a professional environment.
Awards and Accolades
Indiana Wesleyan University has received awards and accolades from various publications and magazines. In 2007, the University was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as One of the Top Masters Universities in the Midwest. It was ranked 62nd among 138 schools. In 2008, the school was ranked 31st and in 2009 it was ranked 28th in the same category. The University was also chosen as one of 12 educational institutions to be a recipient of the Foundation of Excellence Award from the Policy Center on the First Year of College.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The tuition for students looking to enroll in the distance learning program at this university is approximately $10-$18,000 for the entire program, depending on the degree chosen. The fee for tuition includes any and all fees, textbooks, and course materials for individuals living the contiguous 48 states.
Indiana Wesleyan has a financial aid department that can assist any student with completion of paperwork to request student aid, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The University can also help students find and apply for additional scholarships and grants to help offset the cost of enrolling in an online degree program.
