Overview
Kaplan University was founded in 1937 by the American Institute of Commerce. Today, it is owned by Kaplan Incorporated. The University is operate as a for-profit educational institution and is located in Davenport, Iowa. The school has satellite campuses, in addition to its online campus, that are located in Florida, Iowa and Nebraska.
The Kaplan distance learning programs enables students to purse a degree program that is flexible and worthwhile. The institution provides access to the resources of the library that is located at the University of Alabama, as well as advisors who are dedicated to the success of its students.

Kaplan University offers various degree programs online that include associates, bachelors, masters, degrees in various fields of study such as Criminal Justice, business administration, education, communications, emergency management, accounting, legal studies, nursing, information technology, health science, nutrition, paralegal, human services, medical transcription, public administration and more.
Accreditation
Kaplan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of College and Schools. In addition to its main accreditation, the University is also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, the Commission on Dental Accreditation and the Committee on National Security Systems among others.
Mission

Admissions
To enroll in the undergraduate degree programs online, students must submit an application, the application fee, must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate, or show that they are a high school senior and can submit proof of graduation.
For students who are going to enroll to receive an online graduate degree, the student must submit an unofficial transcript indicating that a bachelors degree was received from an educational institution that is not only recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education, but also is regionally or nationally accredited.
Kaplan does allow the transfer of previous education or training as credits to an online degree program. As long as the student has received a grade of C or better, and the subject matter is the same, the credits can be transferred. Tuition and Financial Aid
Kaplan University has a tuition rate of approximately $350 per credit hour, depending on the online college degree program that is chosen. Students can also take advantage financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and submitting it with the required documentation. Students may have access to federal grants, Stafford Loans or PLUS loan that can be used to fund the tuition needs of the student. The University does offer a discounted rate for active-duty and retired military personnel. The spouses of active-duty personnel can also qualify for reduced tuition for their online education.
