South University was founded in 1899 and is located in Savannah, Georgia. The school is currently owned by the Education Management Corporation. The University was originally founded by John Draughon as Draughon’s Practical Business College. The name was later changed to Draughon’s Junior College, but was acquired by John T. South, III.
The University has its main campus in Savannah Georgia, its online campus, as well as satellite campuses that are located in Columbia, South Carolina; Montgomery, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; West Palm Beach, Florida.

Accreditation
South University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This allows the school to bestow associates, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. The University also has accreditations from agencies such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, the American Bar Association, the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the Commission for Independent Education Florida Department of Education among others. Admissions
For individuals looking to enroll in this University’s online college degree program as an undergraduate, they need to be a high school graduate or have a GED, have a minimum combined score of 900 on the SATs, a combined ACT of 19 and other requirements.
For online graduate degree programs, the student is required to submit a bachelors degree from an accredited education institution, an application with its $50 fee, and an overall GPA of 2.7 with a GRE test score at minimum of 900. South University also allows students to transfer credits that were earned at other accredited institutions. These credits are limited to 60% of the overall hours needed to attain the degree. Credits can also be granted for DANTES, ACE certification, military training and experience, and CLEP. The transfer of the credits is at the sole discretion of the University.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The University has a tuition schedule that starts off at $361 credit hour for undergraduate courses and $364 per credit hour for graduate level courses. Graduate tuition can be as high as $503 per credit hour depending on the online degree program chosen.
South University also has a financial aid department that can assist any student with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to find out what type of student aid is available. The type of financial aid that is available includes Federal Pell Grants, Stafford loans, Veterans Education Act, various awards, grants and scholarships.
